Registered Nurse
According to Singapore
Nursing Board (SNB), anyone wishing to practise
nursing and/or midwifery in Singapore, must first registered
with the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) and possess a valid
practising certificate.
An applicant who wishes to apply for
registration as a nurse is required to have successfully
completed one of the following accredited pre-registration
nursing courses in Singapore.
The
following are major nursing appointments, a person may
undertake in the course of a nursing career in
Singapore.
Enrolled Nurse
Administers treatments, medications, medical procedures and
monitors patients' progress under the direction and
supervision of a registered nurse.
Registered Nurse (RN)
Assesses plans, and provides and evaluates preventive,
curative and rehabilitative care for patients in a wide
variety of settings. These include public and private
hospitals, nursing homes, home-based services and other
healthcare settings. RNs also supervise the enrolled nurses
and patient-care assistants.
A Registered Nurse is qualify with a
Diploma in
Nursing by Nanyang Polytechnic or
Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing) by Ngee Ann
Polytechnic
Specialised Nurse
Requires patient care and medical knowledge, skills in
equipment and facilities management as well as ward
management.
For applicant who had completed a nursing course
outside Singapore will have to satisfy the Board that it is
equivalent to an accredited nursing course in
Singapore. The applicant may be required to sit for an
examination, undergo a competency assessment and place on
provisional registration or enrolment.
